Writing a gospel song that works
- โWrite your own words. Well-known hymns and worship songs โ even ones that are centuries old โ are often turned away by the copyright check. Write new lyrics or paraphrase a psalm in your own words.
- โSay who sings the chorus. "Choir answers the lead on the chorus" gets you call-and-response; leave it out and you may get a solo song.
- โKeep the chorus singable. If a congregation will sing it, ask for a short chorus that repeats one line. Long, wordy choruses are hard to learn on first hearing.
- โLyrics in Custom, mood in Style. In My lyrics mode, put only the words in the lyrics box and the instruments and tradition in Style. Instructions typed into the lyrics box get sung.
Gospel Song Generator FAQ
Can it sing in my language?
Yes for most widely spoken languages โ write the lyrics in that language in My lyrics mode, or ask for it in the description ("sung in Yoruba", "in Portuguese"). Pronunciation is usually good in major languages and less reliable in smaller ones, so listen to both takes.
Why was my hymn rejected?
The upstream copyright check blocks lyrics that match existing songs, and it does not reliably tell public-domain hymns apart from protected ones. Rewriting the verses in your own words is the way through.
Can my church use the song in a service or online?
On a paid plan, songs you make while subscribed can be used in services, streams and videos. Free-plan songs are for personal use.
Can I get just the choir or just the music?
Switch on No vocals for an instrumental backing track your choir can sing over. To split a finished song into vocals and music, use the vocal remover (paid plans).
